Voluntary commitments

The 2015 World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR), conducted in Sendai, Japan, identified the State as having the primary responsibility but also underlined the shared responsibility of stakeholders for disaster risk reduction. As a result, Member States called for specific and time-bound voluntary commitments by stakeholders at local, national, regional and global levels in line with DRR strategies and plans to support the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

In response, UNDRR established the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform to showcase non-state actors’ commitments towards implementing the Sendai Framework. The platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work while identifying crossovers with others in the field and potential partners with whom to collaborate to maximise impact. Stakeholders can also get their achievements highlighted.

All non-state stakeholders working on DRR can submit and follow-up their commitments including private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.

Add a New Commitment

Please submit your voluntary commitment to support the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction on the SFVC online platform.

For more information on how to submit your voluntary commitment, please read the Guidelines for Submission or contact the UNDRR SFVC team directly with any questions.

Commitments will inform the global stocktaking of stakeholder contributions and be featured in the UNDRR’s Synthesis and Analysis Report conducted every three years. The first report was launched during the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction held in Geneva in May 2019 and the second report was launched during the Global Platform held in Bali in May 2022.

Note: You will need to sign in with (or register for) a PreventionWeb account to use the Sendai Voluntary Commitments platform.

2015 Voluntary Commitments

A number of commitments were made before and during the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in 2015. Below, you can find these previously announced commitments for reference. Since then, significant progress has been made with their initiatives. Thus, in addition to new commitments, the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments online platform also accepts the registry of previously announced commitments.

Government announcements

Government announcements and special initiatives include both national and local governments, and parliamentarians, and complement the official government statements made at the Open-ended Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee meetings and the WCDRR.
