Media accreditation is strictly reserved for members of the press – print, photo, radio, TV, film, news agencies and online media who represent a bona fide media organization. No double accreditation is allowed (e.g. as press and delegate or as press and NGO).
Media representatives are required to complete both of the following (2) steps:
Step 1: Submit an application on the UN accreditation system filling out the below personal information form.
Step 2: When you have submitted your application form, you can opt for two options to finalize your accreditation process:
Early accreditation: 19 January to 1 March 2015
Before 1 March, send a letter of assignment on official letterhead of a media organisation signed by the Publisher, Editor-in-chief or Assignment Editor indicating the name and duration of assignment of the journalist who will cover the conference (along with his or her contact information). The letter should be addressed to the Media Accreditation Unit and sent, once signed and scanned (PDF format), to email@example.com or fax 212-963-4642.
When your application is approved, a confirmation letter will be sent to the e-mail address provided on the form.
Bring a printout of this letter to the accreditation site.
On-site accreditation: Starting on 9 March 2015
The Accreditation Unit at the Registration Center in the Reception Building will be open as follows:
9-11 March 2015 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
12 March 2015 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
13 March 2015 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
14 March 2015 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
15-17 March 2015 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
18 March 2015 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
After the starting date, bring your assignment letter (see details above) and the printout of your completed application form to the accreditation site. Incomplete requests (without a letter of assignment or completed form of accreditation) will not be processed.
When picking up your pass at the Conference site, you must present two forms of official ID, including a valid passport from a State recognized by the United Nations General Assembly. Passes must be collected in person.
**A visa may be required for entry into Japan. Please check whether you need a visa here. If you are required to obtain an entry visa into Japan, first, please complete Step 1 and Step 2 (Early accreditation) by 25 February 2015, and then bring a copy of the confirmation letter of Step 2 above, as well as (1) your passport, (2) visa application form (with photo) and (3) your certificate of employment that is current at, at the time of visa application, to your nearest Japanese Embassy, Consulate-General or Consular Office. For further details on visas, contact your nearest Japanese diplomatic mission.
*** While the United Nations is not responsible for hotel accommodations for media representatives, a hotel booking website will be available. All fees are the responsibility of the media organization. You are advised to consult the Sendai Committee’s website for information. If you make application for accommodation through the website, ‘personal confirmation number’, which is noted in the confirmation letter of Step 2 (Early accreditation), must be referenced when making a reservation.
